Hello Students and Parents,
School will resume on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. We will continue to work on FINALIZING/PUBLISHING our essays this week. Students were sent home with a revision sheet to work on this weekend. A communication was also sent out to parents, via Synergy, about this assignment. Students will be taking a FINAL EXAM at the end of the week that will cover standards that have been taught during this semester. As the snow continues to melt, stay safe and have a wonderful week! Hello Parents and Students,
Tomorrow, students will be taking the Reading Inventory or RI to assess their growth on reading skills such as comprehension and vocabulary in context. For those parents who attended P.A.W.S. night, I hope that you found the information on RI helpful: Reading daily is important to showing growth on tests like these. The students will be given two days for this test, so please encourage them to take their time! This assessment is extremely important as it will demonstrate to the students, teachers and parents, how the child is progressing and growing in terms of reading proficiency. Reading proficiency for a sixth grader is between 925-1074. Please discuss with your student their current lexile and set an achievable goal for them to meet. Wednesday and Thursday, we will be focusing on revising our personal narratives. Students have been bringing their packet home, so please discuss my comments with them and encourage them to make appropriate changes as you read through the essay together. Wednesday focus: paragraph structure Thursday focus: personal narrative features Friday is INDEPENDENT READING DAY. Please remind your student to have a IR book with them at all times, particularly on Friday. Students should be reading at lease 30 minutes a night. |
